So the sun is shining (some of the time), the BBQ’s are lit, and there are no scheduled matches until September, it can be all too tempting to kick back and let your fitness levels slide. Before you know it, summer is over and the first match is looming!
It’s no secret pre-season training is widely used in a range of sports, not least football. But why should you bother? After all, a few matches in after start of season you’ll be fighting fit again, right?
Wrong! Successful teams will have a dedicated pre-match training schedule, a mixture of training sessions and friendly matches to ensure both fitness and skill is maintained throughout the out of season periods. Teams that make the commitment out of hours often gain the competitive edge on rivals throughout the whole season. Avoiding a shaky start to any league can be the difference between taking the top spot at the end and finishing middle of the board!
On a personal level, pre-season training can be of benefit too, enjoying a pre-season training regime will help you maintain or improve your fitness levels so that you can perform at your best when you need to. We don’t need to remind you of the benefits of regular exercise to both your mental and physical health.
Not only that, you will reduce your risk of injury at the start of the season dramatically. We can’t promise you won’t fall victim to a nasty tackle, but pre-season training will significantly reduce the likelihood that your calf starts playing you up, or your knee means you can’t play the full match.
Whilst we can’t make you take up a pre-season training programme, we certainly think the benefits are worth it!
Here at Active8-Tameside we have a range of facilities to help you get underway, including a fitness suite, full size pitches and small sided pitches, all available to hire for training and pre-season matches.
